The Spirituals

I understand the importance of the African-American spirituals/folk songs to this society. The ancestors have tapped me on my shoulder and made me pay attention to the ancient truths that are discovered only through the spirit. What a great getting up in the morning it is for me!

I pray that this Spiritual project resonates with everyone who listens. The name of the project is "The Spirituals: Meditations on the Essence of African-American Spirituals." It will be released in 2008.

The spirituals are played on piano by the great John Lehman and Rod Hines. John Lehman has been the music director at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Los Angeles for over two decades. He is a master pianist. He is playing on: Consideration, If You See My Savior, Everytime I feel the Spirit, Steal Away, Swing Low Sweet Chariot, Deep River, I want to be Ready and Come Here Lord. Rod Hines is noted for his strong gospel choirs and his work with the youth of Los Angeles. He has contributed on two of the spirituals in this project: Trouble of the World and Calvary.

It is a joy to sing this music and share it with humanity .

Songs of Our Ancestors
Roy Campbell, Jr. and Radha Botofasina

We decided to sing and play in the avant garde music tradition of our urban New York City upbringing. The songs mean a lot to us and were chosen because of the genius of the composers. New lyrics were written to match the mood of the music. The great Brian Auger played piano, John Belzaguy was on contrabass, Ndugu Chancler is on drums, Roy Campbell Jr is on trumpet and Jorge Carbonell is on percussion.

The songs are: SideWinder by Lee Morgan, Naima by John Coltrane, Night in Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie and Little Sunflower by Freddie Hubbard.

They were recorded in the DSD format for optimum fidelity.

Aspirations of the Heart

Shaila Music's 2006 release is Aspirations of the Heart. Newcomers to recording in the USA on this project are: Muthu and
Nagraj Kumar on tablas and harmonium. Featured solo vocalists are
Rashmi Charturvedi, Sharzad Sepanlou, Sandhya Sanjana,Shyam Reyes and Bahar. Saxophone brother players Oran Coltrane and
Ravi Coltrane perform together on the song 'Narayana'. The very talented violinist, Lily Haydn lends her talent on 'Gracias Adios';
Surya Botofasina keyboardist and composer contributes his writing skills on 'Una Promesa' and his playing on 'The Seeds of War.' The album also features Adolpho Pichardo, Roberto Froncesca, Lazaro Villa, Filiberto Sanchez and Angel Terry of the Buena Vista Social Club, plus the talents of Jorge Carbonell, a Cuban percussionist, and lyrical bassist John Belzaguy. The popular Cuban singer Rohitas' band members were included on three tracks: Juan Carlos on trumpet, Louis Palomino on trombone, Lima Rodriguez on tenor saxophone and keyboardist/music arranger Osvaldo Rodriquez. They are the brightest and the best of the contemporary Cuban music scene. John Barnes of InnerSound Studio, turned in three tremendous tracks for the project: 'Life's Pathways', 'Life in God' and 'Oyaheya'.

The Mantram Collection

Shaila Music, in alliance with Mantram Records, released a 5-CD package entitled,"The Mantram Collection" or "Telephone to Heaven", a unique collection of Sound vibrations performed by Artists, who dedicate their Art in service of The Most Holy Spirit.

Her innovative piano concepts can be heard on numerous important John Coltrane recordings. Many albums of her original music also published are; "Monastic Trio,“ "Journey into Satchidananda“ or "Illumination,“ featuring Carlos Santana. Since late '60s Alice Coltrane as Turiyasangitananda dedicated her life and art to the Lord. In recent years, the Mandir Hall of Sai Anantam Ashram became an exclusive stage for Alice Coltrane’s unique music which purely expresses "A Love Supreme" for God... All musical arrangements and keyboard instrumentation are by Swamini Turiyasangitananda on this new release. All of the singers are from Sai Anantam Ashram with the exception of the two lead vocalists from India: the male lead singer is Sairam Iyer; the female vocalist is Sandhya Sanjana.
